I was first introduced to Nia when a friend invited me to a weekend women's dance retreat. I had no idea what to expect but looked forward to a weekend of good friends dancing together. By the end of that weekend, I had participated in four Nia classes, enjoyed myself more than I could have imagined, and I was hooked!
A few months later I found myself at a crossroads with my work and decided to take a two month leave to figure out what to do. During this time I started dancing Nia. I danced four times a week, and for the first time in my adult life found a place where I could be myself, in my body, and express myself in movement. I felt that Nia was created for me! I weighed 90 kg (almost 200 lbs) at the time, and I was dancing!
Nia changed my life. I continued dancing, felt better and better about myself, was given the strength to begin dieting, and proceeded to lose 30 kg (66 lbs). It wasn't easy, but Nia showed me the possibility of moving in my body again, and the joy of dancing.
I believe that through Nia we are given an opportunity to evolve and grow, just as I experienced from my first encounter with Nia.
The personal intimate dance combined with the dance in a group enables a freedom of movement along with a focus on body and soul. Nia empowers and heals and everyone deserves a chance to try it.
My wish is to bring the gift of Nia to all , to realize their potential, to know that they are beautiful and able to move in their bodies, whatever their shape, and to strive to be the person they want to be.
If I can do it, you can too.
